A background in mathematics.
A foundation in teaching.
I’m Arban, the founder of Score 54 Math, a certified math teacher, and a former public-school educator. I’m from Glastonbury, Connecticut, and a graduate of the University of Connecticut.
My academic background brings together mathematics, education, and the study of how students learn.

My story
My parents were the sole owners and operators of Adriatik’s Restaurant in Glastonbury. As I write this, they’ve just completed their 26th year in business. Immigrants from Albania, they worked their tails off to provide for me and my brother.
I spent a lot of time at that place. There’s only so much to do as a kid sitting in the back booth of a restaurant, so I filled some of that time with little math workbooks we’d pick up from Barnes & Noble.
Some of my earliest memories of math are of working through problems in that booth with my dad. Whenever he had a moment, he’d come by, and we’d work through them together.
We both liked working with numbers. The problems felt a little like puzzles, and figuring one out was rewarding. But looking back, what mattered just as much was having someone invested in me. It was something we enjoyed doing together.

In fifth grade, I had a teacher, Mr. Litwin, whose style really clicked with me. He was calm, he challenged us, and we had fun in his classroom. I remember the satisfaction of working through something difficult, understanding it, and feeling ready for the next challenge.
It went beyond math. I began taking real pride in my work and caring about giving my best effort. My family had always valued education, but that year, learning started to feel like something I valued for myself. Looking back, I think that experience showed me how much the right teacher can matter: someone whose approach fits you and helps you believe in what you can do.
That didn’t mean it was always easy afterward. As I got older, I encountered material that was difficult, grades I wasn’t happy with, and times when my study habits needed to improve. Studying mathematics in college challenged me in new ways. What stayed with me was the belief that, with time and work, I could figure things out.
What I want students
to take with them
I don’t expect every student to enjoy math the way I do. Students have different interests, strengths, and ways of thinking. Part of teaching is finding explanations and connections that make sense to the person in front of you.
I also know how difficult it can be to appreciate progress when school keeps moving and the next assessment is approaching. Learning is not linear. Sometimes understanding builds gradually; sometimes an idea finally clicks after several attempts.
I want to help students keep perspective through that process. We work on the foundations, connect ideas, and develop habits that make challenging work more manageable. Along the way, I want them to recognize their own progress and become more confident approaching something they don’t yet understand.
If a student looks back on our time together, I hope they remember that I was invested in them. That they could ask questions, be honest about what was difficult, and trust that we would work through it together.
Above all, I hope they leave with a stronger sense of what they’re capable of. That confidence can reach well beyond math.
Personal attention
families notice.
“Arban takes time getting to know the family and more importantly the students he works with. My daughter’s confidence began to grow quickly thanks to working with Arban and along with that came improved scores. We added our son to Arban’s client list and have seen his math interest and understanding improve significantly.
Arban shares feedback after sessions that is very helpful on the parent side. He is thorough. He creates worksheets and packets that are geared specifically to my kid and each individual session. He is methodical in his approach and explains everything clearly to both my kids and to me via emails!”

One last thank-you: to my mom for the photos of me throughout this site, to both of my parents for always being in my corner, and to my brother for always being a source of motivation.
